What is the OET Speaking?
Medical English OET Speaking
The speaking skills OET (Occupational English Test) comprises of two role-play tasks within a healthcare setting. The test lasts approximately 20 minutes. During the test the examinee will be expected to ask the patient (interlocutor) questions and provide advice.
OET Speaking Preparation Course
The lessons include relationship building and incorporating the patient’s perspective, asking questions and giving information and advice within an English speaking healthcare environment. Examinees normally find these tasks challenging due to cultural differences and frequently lose marks in these skills.
The OET speaking preparation course comprises of five one-to-one lessons. Lessons are designed using the OET assessment criteria to aid examinees in gaining marks and increasing confidence.
Each lesson will include role play exercises to utilise the lesson material in practice.
Pre-requisite for OET speaking preparation course
This course assumes a good knowledge of the English language. The purpose is to aid the examinee to gain marks to pass the OET and not to teach English grammar and fluency. Significant errors in intelligibility, fluency, grammar and lexis will be highlighted with recommendations for study.
